About the initiative
Initiative summary
“Community grassroots alliance protecting native Andean forests through fire prevention, native reforestation, and ecological stewardship.”
Valle Sagrado Verde emerged in 2020 in Ollantaytambo after wild fires highlighted the critical need for holistic forest stewardship.
The project works hand-in-hand with indigenous highland communities to train volunteer wildland fire brigades, set up early warning networks, propagate native Polylepis and Queñua trees, and lead environmental education via Quechua radio broadcasts.
